The Bachelor of Technology Degree in Food Science and Technology is a hands on engineering training degree program. With particular emphasis on the value chain development philosophy, the training program is aimed at producing competent graduates well equipped with theoretical, practical technological and research competences coupled with innovative and business skills to actively and efficiently play leading roles in the fast growing economy of the Country, the region and Africa as a whole. Graduates with the B.Tech degree in Food Science and Technology shall be individuals with sound analytical, practical and innovative skills capable of not only gaining employment in Food industry, teaching and research institutions but shall be capable of setting up and managing different units of the food industrial sector. Post Graduate Programs: Name of programs: Master of Science and PhD in Bioresource Technology with a present focus on Food Science and Technology Description/ Objectives / Information of the program:
The program trains students to become actors in Food Science and Technology capable of integrating the span of knowledge, with the goal of improving the food value chain managment. It will also generate and improve societal knowledge with regards to the business of food transformation in order to improve the health and welfare of current and future generations.
The program offers opportunities for students to pursue careers in research, higher education, food industry, food management organizations, and community and international agencies, or/ and continue to PhD research in Food Science and Technology. Duration of Program:
2 years for a MSc degree and a minimum of 3 years for a PhD degree Admission Requirements for Food Science and Technology Degree Programs: M.Sc Program:
In addition to all other criteria that shall be specified by the Post Graduate School and the College Post Graduate Board, applicants for admission must have a Bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.0 (First or Second Class Honors) in Food Science and Technology or any related area as shall be determined by the Department. Depending on the candidate background, the Departmental Post Graduate Program Committee may, subject to the approval of the College Post Graduate Board, prescribe remedial undergraduate courses not exceeding a total of 12 credits at the time of registration of the candidate. All applications must be accompanied by 3 recommendation letters, two of which must be from academic staff with indebt knowledge of your academic performance and character. In addition, decisions on eligibility will be taken by the Departmental Post Graduate program Committee subject to approval by the College Post Graduate Board, the Post Graduate School and Senate of The University of Bamenda. Ph.D Program:
Applicants for admission must have a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology or any related area of studies. Candidates with a GPA of at least 2.5 (First or Second Class upper division) shall be considered for admission in the program. Other conditions for enrollment into the program shall be those specified by the PG School with emphasis on the specific areas of research of the Department.
